The Shape of things to come

Well now things are really taking shape.  The second floor of the garage has been put in by nature of building the roof supports.  The contractors lifted the last of the interior glulams which are the very thick beams
that will hold up the roof.  Actually the beams are supported by posts that go down through the subfloor to the concrete piers that were poured when the foundation was being built.  This transfers the load (weight) of the roof down through those columns to the concrete piers.

The slope of the garage roof is opposite the slope of the house.  This gives me a nice storage area above the garage.  It is actually almost 7 feet in the front of the garage and slopes down to just a few feet high but it will be perfect for long term storage of those things that my heirs will throw away for me after I leave this planet.

All the interior rooms are framed out.  It is very easy now to visualize how each room will look.  Last weekend Dee and I picked out most of our flooring materials, granite for the kitchen countertops, tile for the bathroom, foyer, and wood stove hearth, and marble for the bathroom counters.  We also selected the make and model of the living room wood stove and the gas fireplace that will go in the bedroom.  We have also selected all the plumbing fixtures, toilets, bathtub, etc so many of our selections have been made and we should not be holding up any progress.

And the driveway, garage apron, and parking area now have all the base rock laid on top of the geotextile fabric and will be ready for the asphalt once construction is nearly finished.

You can see how the garage roof will slope opposite the slope of the house roof.

And from the back side

Here you can see the interior of what will be the storage area above the garage.

Here you can see the beams which will support the roof.  We will leave them wrapped until the roof is put on.

This is the interior of the living room.  This is the corner where the wood stove will go.  And the 60" Pioneer Kuro Plasma HDTV will be mounted on the wall to the left.

And the long driveway is getting covered with base rock
