It'll be done when it's done

I'm sure I'm not the first person who built a new house and then got overanxious to get it done and move in.  The GC has been pushing the date out every week since mid July.  Original date was July 4th.  Then it was moved to the 15th (all my fault because I caused delays selecting plumbing fixtures).  Then
it was moved to the 27th just because.  And since then it has been "next week"; every week.  There are quite a few little things that have to get done to complete the project but in order to get the final county inspection and our Certificate of Occupancy (CO) all we need are the stairs to be built to the front porch, side door, garage, and deck.  Sounds like a lot but really there are only two steps to the front porch, and maybe three or four to the side door and deck.  Of course the GC has been working on the deck v-e-r-y  s-l-o-w-l-y for reasons that are beyond my comprehension.  Supposedly the landing pads for the stairs will be poured tomorrow along with the hot tub pad.  Then he can build the stairs and order the final inspection.  He should be motivated now as he has hit the 90% payout limit so the bank will not give him any more draws until we have the CO.

We are targeting the move date as Aug 23.  We'll see.

There has been progress on several items.  First off the asphalt driveway has been put down and looks great.

Once the driveway was in they were able to start on the walkway from the driveway to the front door.  As you can see it had to be built up a bit first.

Then this stack of 2 x 2 pavers are laid down in a bed of sand.

Here the guys are getting close to the front porch.

Inside the house the electricians have put the finishing touches in for the final electrical inspection.  These are the new kitchen island lights.

And I finished installing the range hood duct shroud.

And the glass block folks came in and built the glass block wall for the master shower.

Another one of my jobs is to insulate and put OSB up in the garage which will be used for Dee's Lab for her business until we get the studio rebuilt.  I've got one wall done and you can see the stack of insulation destined for the other walls.

  1. It looks absolutely amazing! I'm sure it's super frustrating to be living it if boxes but just keep thinking positively about the end goal which is now in sight. I can't wait to see it!
