It's a Colorful Life

Well, it's been a while since our last post, but things are moving quickly now, just not as visibly as before.  All the construction is done, inside and out, and everything that remains is the fun stuff, as far as I'm concerned.  I'm talking about paint, cabinets, counter tops, flooring, fireplaces, and all the trim and other interior details.  The deck still has to be built too, and then the landscraping (sic) begins.

For the interior details, we had to develop two very complicated spreadsheets to keep it all organized.  Well, to keep it manageable, really.  We have two different granite types, a beautiful marble for both bath counters, marble tile for the bathrooms, entry, and fireplace hearth, and tile for the laundry room and mud room.  And colors?  OMG.  Bruce has remained quite calm through this process, considering that most people know that I'm not afraid of wild colors.  And now that he has seen the colors actually on the walls, he's still calm, but just a little unsettled.  Bear in mind that the color he chose for his office is named "Dorian Gray."  I rest my case.

So far, so good!  I might have to tone down the yellow room a bit later on, because people might not be able to actually sleep in there without sunglasses on.  But otherwise, all is good!

Well, not all.  Yesterday we discovered that the painters had dumped their paint washings right on the ground at the corner of the house.  I'm talking about bright blue paint and all the wash water dumped 30 feet from the edge of a protected wetland that pretty much surrounds the house.  It's illegal here to dump paint on the ground, and I'm a strong environmental activist (OK, yes, I'm a hard ass about this)... but to have this happen on a property that will eventually graze goats and chickens and raise organic crops is unforgivable.  We have issued the appropriate complaints and hope to see a cleaned up lawn by the end of the week.  Note to self:  Next time we build a house we will specify that the painters must do their clean up at their own shop (which should be automatic).   Grrrr.....

Next, they're going to paint the ceilings, and will come back to paint the trim after that's all done.  We're two months from scheduled move-in and it's getting downright thrilling!

Oh, and by the way, we created a new planting bed this weekend and got a few tomatoes and some hops in the ground.  More on this next time!

Hugs to all!   -Dee
